CHAPTER 16--HANGOVER

he next morning the room was bare.
Found her downstairs in the cantina, by herself, drinking a cup of coffee, and smoking.
I sat down at the seat directly across from her, and she quickly darted her eyes away wanting to appear lost in thought. Picked up the menu and began trying to find something decent to eat for breakfast.
Or attempted to make it look like that.
Finally, I made the first attempt at communication. "Look, about last night…"
"Shut up, Jack. I don't even wanna hear it. You took advantage of me and you know it!”
A long silence.
I couldn’t believe the trip she was playing on me.
She stared at me with these gorgeous eyes.
"So, I guess you finally found your key, eh?"
"My key? I had it with me the whole time," she said with a straight face and then a faked smile. I suppose it's a good thing Louie showed up right then and there, because I'm not sure how I was going to react. And the fact was, Louie had good news, and well, it just seemed to put things in perspective.
"Rooster just paged," he said, excitedly.
After a quick phone call and with what Rooster was calling our golden window of opportunity looming, we soon made tracks north for Laughlin.
